Introduction St Vincent de Paul is a worldwide organization of lay Catholics which aims to provide relief to the poor. Our members aim to minister Christ to the poor through service. We have no membership requirements or any restrictions as to whom we serve and we cater to everyone who is in need of assistance out of love for God. Us? The Germiston conference of the Society of St Vincent de Paul is attached to Saint Augustine Catholic Church in Germiston. We currently have 11 active members and hoping for many more. Our mission? is primarily to tend to the needs of people who are homeless in Germiston, though we have needy people coming from all around Germiston seeking our help. Funding? Our funding comes largely from jumble sales which we have on every last and first Saturday of the month, donations of parish members (advent buckets), poor box and we also receive some generous donations from other sources. We meet every second Saturday of every month. What we do? Jumble Sales Donations of clothes are requested from parish members which we in turn sell at our jumble sale every first and last Saturday of the month. Blankets We hand out blankets during the winter months if any were donated during the year. Food parcels We have a food parcel scheme for pensioners, destitute families and various other needy people. We package these food parcels from the advent buckets we receive from church and some other generous donations and further jumble sale money every month to assist us to purchase the food parcels, which are made up according to set lists of ingredients. We sort them and distribute them to the beneficiaries in Germiston and Dukathole on our list once a month. We are currently supporting around 30 families, and other needy individuals with these. Other activities We provide a preschool in Dukathole with school uniforms and stationary once a year to prepare the children for school the next year. Once every three months we host the children from Dukathole and provide 300 children with hotdogs, ice lollies and lucky packets, we also have a soup hand out during winter time to keep them warm. We similarly visit old age homes and host events for them where we provide them with entertainment, personal hygiene items and little treats. We make food donations to the SPCA in Germiston and visit the animals. We assist the catechism children with stationary and bibles. We assist some of our food beneficiaries with school uniforms and stationary. And the list goes on as, wherever there is a need, we will always try to assist. THIS MONTH’S PARISH GROUP FOCUS: The St Anne’s Sodality

The St Anne’s Sodality of our Parish had their elections of office bearers this week-end. They appointments will have to be verified and confirmed by the deanery superiors. Today, Sunday the 8th September, Princess Stabile received her cross and became a probationer member. In a year’s time she hopes to become a full member. At present she is a member of the RCIA group.
